As an undergraduate I specialised in Fine Art Sculpture and achieved a First Class Honours Degree from the University of Central Lancashire. After this I trained to be a teacher and worked in community arts, adult education and then At Blackpool and Fylde College on the Art Foundation course. I then moved onto the Sixth Form sector and taught A Level Photography alongside the Vocational Art Course first at Cardinal Newman Sixth Form College, Preston and then at Pendleton Sixth Form College, Salford. At this level I began teaching contextual studies - a mixture of history of art and critical analysis of artworks relevant to studio practice. It was here that I began teaching essay writing and critical thinking skills. When I began my Master of Media Art at Manchester School of Art, I began teaching Photographic Media on the Degree course at Blackburn College University (accredited by University of Lancaster). I achieved the role of Course Leader of the Foundation Degree. From here I went into the Higher Education sector and worked for 5 years at The University of Huddersfield on the Contemporary Art and Illustration Degree where I was module lead for Year 1 Contextual Studies and a personal tutor/pathway lead for Studio Practice.
